"Defender, Toby Alderweireld was born in Wilrijk, Belgium on 2nd March 1989. The Belgian international came through the ranks at Ajax, making 186 appearances and scoring 15 goals during nine years with the Eredivisie champions, where he lifted three league titles and one Dutch Cup. He was named 'Ajax Talent of the Year' in 2010, an honour also won by teammates Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen during their times in Amsterdam. Capped by Belgium at every level from Under-15 to Under-21, Alderweireld made his senior international debut in 2009 and appeared at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil. He also featured for his nation at Euro 2016 and was heavily involved in Belgium's best-ever World Cup finish, as they came third at the 2018 tournament in Russia. Toby joined Spanish side Atletico Madrid in 2013 and was part of the squad that won the 'La Liga' title on the last day of the season, as well as reaching the Champions League final in the same year. He then moved to England, joining Southampton on loan during the 2014/15 season before joining Tottenham Hotspur the following season. Following his arrival at Spurs, he earned the One Hotspur Members' 'Player of the Season' and Supporters' Clubs' 'Player of the Season' awards, as well as a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year after a fine first campaign in Spurs' colours in 2015/16. He played every minute of every game for Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League and Premier League, barring a couple of minutes at the end of a 2-2 draw with Chelsea in May, 2016, as he was forced off in stoppage time. He also weighed in with four goals, all at home in the Premier League, against Manchester City, West Ham, Arsenal and Manchester United. He started 12 of 13 games en route to the UEFA Champions League Final in Madrid in 2018/19 - more than any other player in the squad - and made the joint-highest number of Premier League starts for Tottenham Hotspur throughout that campaign, 33, along with Hugo Lloris. In December 2019, Alderweireld signed another contract extension with the club, keeping him at Tottenham Hotspur until 2023. "
