Tracie was born a 'Filmer' and married a 'Cannon' so it was her destiny to come out firing in front of a camera. Legit Story. Singapore-born Filmer struggled with her cultural identity as a migrant child in Melbourne in the early 80's. With an Anglo-Indian (English-Indian) father and a Chinese mother, Tracie was too caramel to be Eurasian and too brown for an Aussie. She is a walking channel SBS combination special - a Chindian with white floaty bits. In Primary School, Tracie loved reading out aloud in class. It was an opportunity to exaggerate, animate and characterise her own version of the 'Serpent' in the book of Genesis; regardless if it was deemed inappropriate to sound like 'Miss Piggy'. The story of David and Goliath was also...... oh never mind. This however, was the beginning (genesis) of her story telling itch. Growing up, she hardly saw true representation of her kind on TV. This was something that stirred her curiosity and at the time, assumed that her kind wasn't meant to be seen on TV-Film. Well... not anymore. Thanks to Masterchef 2020 (Poh, Reynold, Jess, Khanh, Melissa, Sarah, Brendan), Crazy Rich Asians, Shellac nail salons and discount fares to Bali, Australians now share an eclectic understanding of migrant stories. In Tracie's case, it is laced with colourful stories from billabong to bao and from bunyip to briyani. Tracie believes that a stronger presence of screen diversity opens more global opportunities to tell those multilayered cultural tales. She is passionate to share stories that pollinate across race, gender, age and culture rather than focus on one element of diversity. We are mudbloods with voices to be heard. Writing comedy sketches/satire is an area that Tracie has been pursuing for a few years now. What started as a way to entertain family members, has now accumulated a growing audience and loyal followers on social media. Her TV/Film credits cover Neighbours, Abc's Harrow, Netflix's Tidelands and Channel 10 Peach's Stage Mums. Tracie's mock creation of her character Pho Lin Han San comedy skits has had over 25,000 views on face book and Instagram during the federal election period. Her comedy skits are currently being performed and aired on Gold Coast Rebel FM's 99.4 breakfast show. Tracie has studied with Greg Apps (The Audition Technique), Tom McSweeney, Phil Holder (The Warehouse Workshop) and John Stewart (T.A.F.T.A.) and continues to fine tune her acting chops. She is also a trained Wildlife Education Ranger and handles various raptors, reptiles and mammals. Tracie longed to meet Ranger Stacey from 'Totally Wild' (TV show) but sadly, never formally met her in person, even though they both worked for Queensland Wildlife & Parks! Hire her. She's grouse. (My hubby told me to add that).
