In 2009 Tom wrote and directed a short docu-drama about a Scottish headmaster with Hindu beliefs living in Nepal. The film was nominated for Best Documentary at the Royal Television Society Awards, as well as Best UK Graduate film at the Ffresh film awards. In 2010, he wrote and directed a short Cardiff-based Bollywood film, entitled Cardiff Love Story. This went on to win the Welsh Royal Television Society Award for Best Entertainment in February. It was then shortlisted in the final three at the national Royal Television Society Awards, out of over 300 entrants, also winning a Ffresh Best UK Graduate Fiction Award. In 2012, Tom wrote, directed and shot a short film entitled END, which was shortlisted for the Best UK Fiction award at Manchester Film Festival and the Cardiff Mini Film Festival. It was also screened at Thurrock International Film Festival. Tom completed his third short film entitled 'The Reading', which was accepted into the Cannes Short Film Corner and shortlisted for Best Narrative Short at the Cardiff Mini Film Festival. It was also shortlisted at the International Film Festival of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles and selected for the Spring Showcase of the first American Online Film Festival. In 2014, he completed a short film entitled 'One' and 'The MP', which was in the officially selection at LA Cinefest 2016 and Sydney Lift-Off Film Festival. His last short film Laura has been shortlisted at Los Angeles Cinefest 2017, Cardiff Mini Film Festival 2017 and the Cannes Short Film Corner 2018.
