Richard's nomadic career began in factual television wearing multiple fancy pants hats as a director, shooter, and editor on shows like Intervention Canada, Ice Road Truckers and Vegas Rat Rods. But after nabbing a Gemini Award, Richard jumped over to scripted television where he developed a reputation as 'The Truck Whisperer" when he was hired to be the lead director and producer of NBC Sprout's groundbreaking kids series, Terrific Trucks. He then went on to become the co-executive producer, co-writer and director of the Terrific Trucks Save Christmas, a TV movie that earned in him a 2017 Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Direction in a Family Program. Richard's first feature film, a dramatic comedy entitled Sideboob, began its 2018 festival circuit with screenings at the Toronto Indie Film Fest, Charlotte Film Festival, and Hamilton Film Festival. 2018 also saw Richard finish work as the executive producer, director, and editor of an interactive, mystery web series with Insight and Yellow Bear Productions entitled Damaged, which was picked up by T&E for broadcast in October 2018. The series began its festival circuit, winning runner-up for Best Web Series and Best Noir at the Los Angeles Film Awards, and will be screened at the upcoming Rome Independent Prism Awards and the Miami Web Fest in 2019.
Richard Roundtree's iconic career began while attending Southern Illinois University where he was on a football scholarship. After being spotted Richard signed with Johnson Publications to model in their Ebony Fashion Fair, touring 79 cities in 90 days. But rather than returning to school, Roundtree headed off to his home state of New York to begin acting lessons. He soon was asked to become a member of New York's acclaimed Negro Ensemble Company. A succession of Off-Broadway roles resulted in his starring as Jack Johnson in "The Great White Hope". On television he has been a series regular on several hit shows where he has garnered an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Series, and a Peabody Award for his narration of the PBS documentary "The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow". Richard was born in New Rochelle, New York, to Kathryn and John Roundtree. An advocate in the fight against breast cancer and a 25-year male breast cancer survivor himself, Richard has taken a stand by participating in events that help raise awareness and funds towards finding a cure for this disease.
