Paul was first attracted to stand-up comedy at a very young age. He was only nine years old when he witnessed Eddie Murphy's RAW in 1987. Although he couldn't understand all the jokes, and probably should not have been listening to explicit language, he became instantly intrigued by the idea of speaking into a microphone and making a crowd of people happy. Also, in the mid-eighties, his father took him to see Rodney Dangerfield live at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. By the end of the show, he was sleeping on his father's lap but the seed was planted. Growing up, Paul was always making people laugh, something that he continues to do today. Paul makes waves and raises eyebrows every time he touches a microphone. In the year 2000 Paul entered a contest in upstate NY where he went to high school. It was called The Hudson Valley's Funniest Man for a popular radio station. The competition, which was comprised of over 20 contestants, lasted more than two months. Before he knew it, Paul had successfully passed the first two rounds, joining the last seven comics in the finals. It came down to him and one other. In the end, Paul fell short. However, this inspired him. Not only has he gone on to win many other contests, but he also came to the realization that this is what he wants to do for the rest of his life. Since then he has opened numerous times for some of the best comedians in the business. Comics such as Dave Attell from Comedy Central's "Insomniac" and "The Gong Show" and Bill Burr from Comedy Central's "Chappelle's Show" and his one hour special "Why Do I Do This" are just a couple. Paul performs all over the country and many of the nation's top comedy clubs have called him one of the strongest up and comers working today. Recently, Paul was a semi-finalist for NY's Funniest Comic Competition for the NY Comedy Festival in NYC. Paul's Stand-Up can be heard on Sirius Satellite Radio daily. He is also currently shooting a TV pilot for a show he wrote and created along with some fellow comics. Paul never fails in keeping the laughs coming and making the audience feel comfortable with his hard hitting personal approach. He is fun to watch and has a great stage presence.
Paul Vogt from Hairspray Live! (2016) found himself back on NBC in the new comedy "Perfect Harmony" where he originally landed Hollywood recognition as the breakout star of The Rerun Show (2002) when he portrayed Mrs. Garrett from "The Facts of Life". Since then, he has become a permanent cast member on MADtv (1995) (FOX's successful late-night sketch comedy show) and filmed two movies with Garry Marshall (Raising Helen (2004) (hysterical deleted scene now on DVD) and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004)). Originally from Buffalo, New York, Vogt received classical theater training from the State University College at Buffalo, where he was privileged to work with Warren Enters and Tom Fontana. He receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts: Theater (with a concentration in Directing). Soon after, he was hired by the Walt Disney Company to perform at Walt Disney World (Streetmosphere, Comedy Warehouse, Hoop Dee Do Musical Review) in Orlando, Florida. While in Florida, Vogt continued to perform on stage, winning awards (Best Actors for his portrayal of Sam Byck in Stephen Sondheim's musical "Assassins" and for "Greater Tuna") and critical acclaim for his theater work (Orlando Theatre Project: "Below the Belt", "Sylvia", "Losing Weight"; Orlando Shakespeare Festival: "Coriolanus", "Hamlet", "Much Ado About Nothing"; Orlando Opera Company: "The Fantasticks"). Vogt was discovered (with his identical twin brother, Peter Allen Vogt) in Florida and was cast in Barry Sonnenfeld's quirky ABC series Maximum Bob (1998) starring Beau Bridges. After moving to Burbank, Garry Marshall cast Vogt as Jimbo Milachi in "Happy Days: the musical" at the Falcon Theatre. Vogt proved that he could command a stage with his comic timing and acting ability. Soon he was being cast from his performance as a mean Milachi Brother in "Happy Days" to film and television roles. Garry Marshall has cast Vogt in several productions on stage and in films. David Salzman cast him in The Rerun Show (2002) and MADtv (1995) . He appeared on two episodes Chicago Hope (1994) as a conjoined twin and guest starred in an episode of In-Laws (2002) and more recently in Arrested Development (2003). Paul is a Kentish Man (not a Man of Kent), who now lives in Oxford, UK. He was educated at Dover College Prep School, Folkestone, before moving to Milner Court and then The King's School Canterbury. Academically he was always strong, but couldn't really be bothered with A-Levels. He snuck into The University of Nottingham to study manufacturing engineering, but quit just after a year. He switched to Business Studies at Nottingham Trent, but soon packed that in and gave up on academia completely to pursue a career writing films. His parents were delighted. He fell into gardening for a few years, before flying to Australia, where he spent most of the time in Sydney and worked in a sex shop called 'The Pleasure Chest'. Whilst attempting to write film scripts he also had some Erotica published, which is regarded as "Way better than anything EL James wrote". After returning from Down Under, he eventually moved to London where he soon found a 'proper job' in Press Cuttings, but got fired after a year. This pattern continued in his next job - a photographer for an estate agent - which he also left just after a year. He dabbled in the world of Film Extras, and consequently wrote a popular blog on the topic for cult website bleedingcool (which you can read on his website). In 2012 he finally pulled his finger out and made some films, and in 2013 won an award and much acclaim for an online advert for PlayStation. He followed this up with his directorial debut for Shell, which had millions of views worldwide, and went on to make numerous commercials for brands such as Chevrolet, Castrol and Shell. He also made a handful of music videos. His 2021 short horror 'Viola' was selected for numerous festivals, winning several accolades including Best Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography. Around that time he also wrote/directed a few films for Scott Jeffries (of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey fame). Paul would like to point out that these films were made for about £5k each, and he was forced to write to a ridiculous premise with very little time [3-4 weeks]. These should therefore not be seen as a reflection of how well he can write. He'd also like to point out that Scott never fed any of the cast/crew on any of those productions. Outside of movies he enjoys rugby, travel and correcting people's grammar. He played a 'Deatheater' in the final Harry Potter film, and as a choirboy he once sang to the Pope.
