Helena Carolyn Dennis was born in Bridgend, South Wales to parents, Carolyn Dennis, I.T. trainer and teacher, and Peter Dennis, editor for ITV Cymru Wales. From a young age she trained a number or local part time acting schools such as; Bridgend Youth Theatre, ran by Roger Burnell and The Workshop, ran by Peter Wooldridge. She also took part in many dancing shows and competitions. Her performance venues include: The Wales Millennium Centre, St. David's Hall and The New Theatre. Whilst studying for her GCSE's, Helena auditioned for The Young Actors Studio Course at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. This provided insight into accredited drama school training with workshops involving movement, voice, improvisation and script. Her tutors include established professionals and lecturers such as; Richard Mylan (Waterloo Road, Nicola Reynolds (The Story of Tracy Beaker), and Jain Boon, who is currently the Creative Activist for the National Youth Theatre of Wales. At the age of 17, Helena auditioned for the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. She then traveled to London to take part in the Stadium Arts Course at Rose Bruford College. Her mentor, Darrell Aldridge, taught her various performing and physical theatre techniques such as Laban Movement Analysis. She then went on to perform outside the National Theatre in London's Southbank in front of hundreds of members of the public, and families of those involved. Through the National Youth Theatre, Helena took part in a special workshop by the Kevin Spacey Foundation in London. This provided a short class based on Shakespeare's Richard III. After completing her A-Levels at Cowbridge Comprehensive Sixth Form, Helena then took a Gap Year to focus on her career and aspirations in life. Throughout this time she got signed onto Phoenix Casting Agency where she worked as a supporting artiste for many familiar television shows. These include: Casualty, Being Human, Wizards vs. Aliens, Stella, Da Vinci's Demons, Merlin and Doctor Who. In 2012 Helena was cast as a Time Lord for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special watched by fans in 94 countries worldwide and was screened in 1,500 cinemas. In 2013, Helena applied to participate in the It's My Shout scheme ran by Roger Burnell. This gave Helena the chance to work behind the scenes, rather than in front of the camera. She worked as a production runner for the Made in Wales Series on the film Say It. During this time Helena got picked up by Roger Burnell to work as a production coordinator for the upcoming It's My Shout Premiere in the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff. The guest list included, Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon, the First Minister Carwyn Jones, and head of BBC Cymru Wales, Rhodri Talfan Davies. After each film was shown, they then aired on BBC Cymru Wales and S4C in which Helena gained her first production credit. During her time at It's My Shout, Helena got the opportunity to work at the 2013 BAFTA Cymru Awards as a stage runner where she aided people such as Ruth Jones, Stephen Moffat and Michael Sheen. She also worked as a production runner on the hit Starz show Da Vinci's Demons, created by co-writer of the Dark Knight Trilogy, and writer of Man of Steel, David S. Goyer. Helena studies at the University of South Wales. She is on her second year on the BA (Hons) Film and Video course.
