Prague born, Vancouver raised, David Nykl arrived in Canada at age two when his family emigrated from Czechoslovakia after the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact invasion of what was then Czechoslovakia. David started early as an actor in Vancouver: community theater, small TV parts, and classes in dance and music. He graduated University of British Columbia with an Major in English Literature and Theater. Post graduation David began appearing in Vancouver theater production at Bard on the Beach, Pacific Theatre, and the Gateway Theatre. He soon toured with a production of "Waiting for Godot" to Prague - where he remained for almost a decade - where he co-founded the famous English language theater company Misery Loves Co. as well as appeared in several local Czech companies such as divadlo na zabradli, kaspar, and divadlo v dlouhe. Since his return to Canada in the late nineties, David has appeared in dozens of film and TV projects including Stargate: Atlantis (2004), Arrow (2012), Supernatural (2005), Fringe (2008), Eureka (2006), Continuum (2012), Tomorrowland (2015), HBO's The Sleepers (2019), and, since 2019, Carnival Row (2019). He lives in Vancouver with his family.

David's first lead role was in the Swedish TV series Familjen Babajou in 2008. He has since then starred in some of the biggest film projects and on the biggest theater stages in Sweden. Grandson to the great Kenny O'Donnell- Harvard football Captain and Chief of staff for President Kennedy- David grew up excelling at many sports and graduated top of his high school class. Instead of going the college route, he decided to give acting a go in LA and studied intensively with Milton Katselas in his Master Class for 12 years with the likes of Doris Roberts, John Glover, Giovanni Ribisi. He has since appeared in several television pilots, over 25 guest starring roles on TV and over 30 films. He is also currently a producer with CAPTIV3 Media- delivering commercials and independent films. He's (2013)currently starring in the independent film The Squeeze with Chris McDonald and Jeremy Sumpter.
After graduating from West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), David worked for several years in Australian theatre, film and TV. Credits include Blue Water High (ABC), Underbelly (Channel 9), Cops LAC (Channel 9). He received a nomination for a West Australian Equity Guild Award among other award nominations. He wrote, produced, and directed the short Picture Wheel which screened at Palm Springs, Rhode Island, Cinequest, Santa Monica - where it won Best Short Film, and numerous other fests. It was sold to Gunpowder & Sky. His dark comedy Love & Dating: in LA! (writer, producer) screened at festivals around the world including Cleveland International, Hollyshorts, Santa Monica where it won the Audience Choice award, and was bought by The El Rey Network. His debut feature Under My Skin (writer, director, producer) was nominated for an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Award (AACTA) for Best Indie, and he received an Australian Director's Guild nomination. Under My Skin screened at various fests including NewFest, Santa Barbara, and Raindance. Projects in development include feature film Sons of Salt, which received Screen Australia development funding and was shortlisted for the Australians In Film Gateway Screenwriting Prize. He has lectured on writing and performance at various institutions including M.I.T. and Edith Cowan University.
