David grew up near Savannah, Georgia, and has lived most of his life in Atlanta (with a three-year stint in Los Angeles). While growing up, David always had a love for film, television, and theatre. He was very active in theatre in high school and college and performed in community theatre after graduation. David has spent the past ten years focusing his creative efforts on television and film. David has dozens of credits in television and film, including episodes of House of Cards on Netflix, NCIS: New Orleans on CBS, CSI: Cyber on CBS, Genius on BET, Black Lightning on The CW, and was a recurring character on Kevin (Probably) Saves the World on ABC as well as BET's American Soul. David has had roles in the films Killing Reagan, Hillbilly Elegy, and The Banker, and was a lead in the film Lover in the Attic for Lifetime. In addition, David has been fortunate enough to work with Academy Award Winners Ron Howard, Kevin Spacey, Patricia Arquette, and William Hurt. In addition to performances in film, television, commercials, and live theatre, David has extensive experience as an on-air talent in radio, has done extensive commercial voice-over work, and has had numerous live television appearances. David is also a Master Barber and recently set a Guinness World Record on NBC's Today Show for shaving the most heads in one hour (73) as a benefit for The St. Baldrick's Foundation (for Childhood Cancer Research). David is a member of SAG-AFTRA and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

David Alford was born in Nashville and raised on his family farm in Adams, Tennessee. His father Ben Robert was a farmer and Methodist Minister. David graduated in a class of 49 students from nearby Jo Byrns High School. He attended his father's alma mater Martin Methodist College and then Austin Peay State University before training at The Juilliard School in New York from 1987-1991. David returned to Nashville in 1994 to found Mockingbird Theatre, which he served as Artistic Director until closing the company in 2004. He was Executive Artistic Director of Tennessee Repertory Theatre in Nashville from 2004-2006, and served as the company's first Artist-in-Residence the following year. David's passion for theatre and his rural roots led him to write, direct, and produce two theatre productions based on the history of his hometown, both of which are staged annually in Adams. His compilation of his father's writing, DANCE OF THE HOLY NOBODIES, was published by Martin Methodist College where he designed and taught a new Dramatic Arts Major from 2009-2014. He has two sons by his first wife. He and his second wife Kahle Alford split their time between New York and Tennessee.
