After spending almost 40 years as a marketing professional (International airlines and large-scale Real Estate developments) Darlene turned her attention to film after returning from 10 years of living and working in Loreto, Mexico, to retire back home to Vancouver Island. In 2019/2020 she served as President of the Board of the Cinevic Independent Film Society, is active on the Board of both the South Island Film Commission and Women in Film and Television Vancouver (WIFTV) and remains an active member of the Victoria, BC film community in various capacities as Producer, Casting Director, and/or as an actor. Darlene's first foray into the film community on Vancouver Island began with extensive actor training at the Screen Actors Studio (David Simmonds) in the late-90's. After some early success, her real estate career took her to Mexico full-time in 2003. Although she returned to Victoria in 2013, family health issues were her focus until 2015 when she re-entered the local film community. Her local film involvement since that time has been extensive and varied. Her strong business background has made her an invaluable asset to the independent film community where she frequently consults to and/or is engaged on local productions. She left the airlines in 1986 to move to Vancouver Island after meeting and marrying her husband, Ed. Her real estate career began by leading a Marketing & Communications team for the redevelopment of Bamberton followed by launching similar initiatives for such places as Loreto Bay (Mexico), Westhills and Spirit Bay.
Darlene originated the popular contract character of 'Anita Santos' on the ABC Daytime Drama, All My Children, and some of her numerous guest stars on television have included hit shows, Power, Criminal Minds, Bones and How I Met Your Mother. Darlene's feature film appearances have been in big budget studio films such as J.J. Abrams' Star Trek; Starsky & Hutch; and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
