Aldo DaRe was born in the borough of Pen Argyl, in Northampton County, Pennsylvania on 25 September 1926. He attended the University of California at Berkeley, served as a US Navy frogman during WWII and saw action on Iwo Jima. While constable of Crockett, California, he drove his brother Guido to an audition for the film Saturday's Hero (1951). Director David Miller hired him for a small role as a cynical football player. Ray's husky frame, thick neck and raspy voice made him perfect for playing tough sexy roles. He was the star of George Cukor's The Marrying Kind (1952) and starred opposite Rita Hayworth in Miss Sadie Thompson (1953). Ray was the none-too-bright boxer in Cukor's Pat and Mike (1952) and an escaped convict in 'Michael Curtiz''s We're No Angels (1955). His career started downhill in the 1970s, with him appearing in a string of low-budget films as a character actor. His last film was Shock 'Em Dead (1991). Ray was married three times, with one daughter Claire born in 1951 to his first wife Shirley Green whom he married on on 20 June 1947. Ray was then briefly married to actress Jeff Donnell and then had two sons and a daughter with his third wife, Johanna Ray, one of whom is the actor Eric DaRe. Aldo Ray died of throat cancer on 27 March 1991.
Prolific, versatile, and ubiquitous character actor Aldo Sambrell was featured in over 140 international motion pictures in a remarkably long, varied, and illustrious career that spanned four and a half decades. Swarthy and burly, usually sporting a thick mustache, and often projecting an air of quiet oily menace, Sambrell was frequently cast in colorful supporting parts as hateful villains and lethal gunslingers in numerous Italian spaghetti Westerns. Sambrell was born Alfredo Sanchez Brell on February 23, 1931 in Madrid, Spain. His family fled Spain because of the Spanish Civil War and he was raised in Mexico. While in Mexico Aldo played professional soccer in the Mexican leagues in Pueblo and Monterrey. After beginning his career in the entertainment industry as a singer, Sambrell eventually returned to Spain and made his film debut in an uncredited bit role as a Jewish rebel in the biblical epic King of Kings (1961). Aldo appeared in his first spaghetti western in 1963. Sambrell was perhaps best known for his gritty portrayals of scruffy bandit gang members in Sergio Leone's classic spaghetti westerns Per un pugno di dollari (1964), Per qualche dollaro in più (1965), Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966) and C'era una volta questo pazzo, pazzo, pazzo West (1973). Sambrell gave a memorably chilling performance as ruthless bandit gang leader Mervyn Duncan in Navajo Joe (1966). He had a rare lead role as voodoo priest Gatenebo in the laughably lousy horror clunker Vudú sangriento (1974). Among the many directors Aldo worked for are David Lean, Richard Fleischer, John Milius, Sergio Corbucci, Umberto Lenzi, León Klimovsky, Jess Franco, Richard Lester, Jackie Chan, Charlton Heston, Matt Cimber and Enzo G. Castellari. Moreover, Sambrell also wrote, produced and directed a few films. He was married to actress Cándida López. His last film role was as an aging actor in the poignant short Río seco (2006). Aldo died at age 79 on July 10, 2010 in Alicante, Spain after suffering a series of strokes.
Aldo Silvani was born on January 21, 1891 in Turin, Piedmont, Italy. He is known for Le notti di Cabiria (1957), La Strada (1954) and Rigoletto e la sua tragedia (1956). He was married to Amelia Piemontese. He died on November 12, 1964 in Milan, Lombardy, Italy.
I caught the "wine bug" at 19! I was working in a restaurant as a server and two Swiss couples asked me every morning what to drink with their dinner that night. They were super passionate about wine, and in wanting to do right by them, I read during my afternoon breaks and stumbled upon the beginning of my career. Around the same time, I visited Alto Adige with my father. He was purchasing wine for his private cellar, and I bought my first bottle, a 1983 Darmagi from Angelo Gaja. Now, this was 1990, so that bottle wasn't even what it would be now. I had read so much about it, and it was a hell of a lot of money, but my instinct told me to go for it. I did. I continued to work in wine-focused restaurants in Tirol, my home region in Austria. I started my sommelier education in 1998, and I was invited by our group leader to the "Best Sommelier in the World" competition in Vienna where he was the Austrian candidate. I watched the finals and was shocked: the intensity, the stress, the pressure. I remember thinking to myself, "This is absolutely insane. I will never do anything like this!" One year later, while I was successfully finishing my Sommelier exam, that same group leader asked me if I'd be interested in competing. I was humbled and nervous, but my curiosity was stronger than my fear. During my first completion, in 1999, I came in second. In 2000, I once more came in second. I finally won my first contest, "Best Sommelier in Austria 2002." I defended the title again in 2003, 2004, and also in 2006, after having moved to New York in 2004 to improve my English and compete on an international level. My introduction to the New York beverage scene was at Wallsé and Café Sabarsky, following which I opened Blaue Gans in Tribeca in 2007. Those couple of years were very eventful and led me to where I am today. I won "Best Sommelier in America 2007" which allowed me to represent the US in the "Best Sommelier in the World 2008" competition. More importantly, perhaps, I started at Le Bernardin as Chef Sommelier in 2007. I landed a dream job working with Maguy and Eric in a great family. Since then, and as we opened Aldo Sohm Wine Bar in 2014, I've had the honor and fortune to grow and train two teams. I've since kept my position at Le Bernardin, and its hard for me to imagine leaving the floor. Like that Swiss couple, I love to eat and drink, and being at Le Bernardin allows me to keep learning and pushes me to improve myself. Growing up in Austria, surrounded by glassblowing artisans and craftsmen in the height of glass culture, it was impossible NOT to think about glassware. As a result, when I was approached by Zalto, it was a natural partnership for me to take on. I truly believe that great wines deserves great stemware, and I was able to learn first-hand how the glass-making affects the wine's behavior in the glass (and on the nose and palate). It's like good music needing a good speaker system. (Check out the Zalto Shop, here!) I also got tired of only criticizing wine, because there was so much I felt I didn't know about how it ought to turn out. Gerhard and I partnered in 2008 to produce Gruner Veltliner from our home, Austria. (Read more about our story, here) It's been a good and challenging journey so far, and being a part of the wine-making process has made me a better, more knowledgeable (and certainly a more humble) sommelier. Now? Now, I live in Brooklyn where I've truly found my second home. With all the work in my life, I try to balance myself with sport. I am an avid cyclist, and I love getting out of the city on my bicycles. Life is all about balance, and I find myself discovering more of it outside of my comfort zone!

Edison award winning multi-instrumentalist Aldous Byron Clarkson achieved international success and mega stardom in Japan with his debut album 'Gaia', selling over 1 million copies of his debut album 'Valensia'. He wrote and composed the album at the age of 16. After a career which spanned more than 2 decades Clarkson still was only 37 years old and could easily switch to the film industry as a movie director, having directed most of his own video clips. In 2011 Clarkson wrote, produced and financed his first feature film 'spo0K'. Both cast and crew initially thought Clarkson was a wealthy, spoiled rock star who just wanted to do a movie for a change, causing tensions on the set and leaving Clarkson with only 60% of the movie shot. Clarkson was about to throw away the entire production shot on RED but managed to complete the severely damaged movie using a cheap handy cam and directing his two main actors one on one. In 2014 Clarkson then came up with the impossible sounding project to do a feature film called 'Levine' all by himself, without a crew, a cast or a budget. Warned by many that this idea was a too huge project for one man Clarkson commenced principal photography on November 2014 with a RED camera and nothing more. He successfully concluded 'Levine' in February 2017, having done every job of the movie from set dressing to acting to playing each violin of the orchestra playing the movie score he wrote.
