Sam Elia
Sam Elia is a qualified Production Safety Supervisor/Advisor promoting safer working conditions in the motion picture industry globally and has been graded by the National Stunt Committee in Australia as a Professional Safety Supervisor. A Professional Safety Supervisor is graded and defined as a professional who is qualified and skilled to provide specialist knowledge, expertise and advice regarding the most appropriate measures to minimize risks associated with the motion picture industry.
That being said, a significant contributor to being successful in the profession, is beyond formal grading and education. It is the extensive exposure and experience to different environmental conditions, both on a set and in Sams' personal life (hobbies and interest), that has equipped someone as himself with the technical knowledge to make risk considerations and implement risk minimizing procedures on set. Having worked in film for the last few decades has also naturally provided more than a handful of hazardous and risk induced environments to work with.
Sams' past dealings in the building and construction industry, as well as the horse racing industry in the earlier days of his life has conveniently provided essential experience in electrical works, physics and animal management which has all been essential part of his safety expertise in stunt safety, water safety, vehicle safety, working with animals, stunt performances, etc.
Cast, crew and management of productions have expressed their comfort with having him as a Physical Safety Supervisor on set.
